The New Year of 2007 is quickly approaching and Father Time is about to transfer duties on to the Baby New Year once again. So with the last few days of 2006 now is the time to ask yourself the ultimate New Years question, “What in 2007 will be different for me from 2006?” Looking back at the last year though, what changes did you make in your life that was an enhancement on 2005? In what ways did you improve your life and the lives around you in a way that was different from the year before? Did you seek education in 2006 and get more refined education to enhance your personal or professional life? Did you create stronger and more loving relationships with others? Did you make more money this year or create new revenue streams? Did you travel and enjoy life and the world around you more? So what did you do differently in 2006 from 2005?
Now that you can see the patterns you created this year, what are you going to do to carry that momentum into 2007? Once you can identify the patterns you have laid-out, then you can better see how you can take those patterns to the next level. A good exercise for this is to start journaling on this now if you don’t already do so. In your journal, you should be identifying in quantifiable terms what you are going to do differently in 2007. If your plan is to earn more money, how much more? If you plan to spend more time with friends and family, what are you going to do to budget this time more effectively? Should fitness and/or weight-loss be your plan, how many pounds in how much time? It’s one thing to say, “I want to be rich in 2007″ and another to say, “I am going to earn 500,000 this year” because the latter is a specific target you can now aim for.
Once you have started to quantify your plans for 2007, start to do what I call “Break It Down”. If your plan is to lose 60 pounds in 2007, break it down into smaller, more manageable segments. For example, 60 pounds in one year equals:
30 pounds in 6 months
15 pounds in 3 months
5 pounds in 1 month
1.25 pounds in 1 week
So rather than focus so much on the 60 pounds, focus more on just losing 1.25 pounds a week. That’s all you have to do. Stay on that plan, and the pounds will pour off faster than you realize. The same thing holds true for money. If your plan for 2007 is to double your earnings from 2006, break it down! If this is a move from $100,000 to $200,000 a year, breaking it down means you have to earn:
$100,000 in 6 months
$50,000 in 3 months
$4,166 in 1 week or approximately;
$96.15 per hour based on a 40-hour work week.
So here you can see, the same system applies. Rather than focus on earning $200K a year, just focus on earning $100.00 per hour. What so remarkable about this method of future pacing is the majority of those who do it vastly exceed their target mark which is an even more awesome than just achieving a plan you initially set out to accomplish. Of course when setting your target, it is equally important to set a march which is a little out of reach and yet is still attainable. If you earned $50,000 in 2006 and your plan for 2007 is to earn $2 billion, that might be a bit unrealistic. Double though is a good stretch for most and is still achievable.
So if you don’t already have one, go buy a journal this weekend and write your plans for 2007. Start by listing what you improved in 2006 and then journal on what you will be doing in 2007 to be different in a positive way from 2006. Start your plans now and I know that this time next year, you’ll be looking back in amazement at how much you were able to manifest in 2007.
